I love hearing Tony Robbins speak about life and business. I came across an interview with him, by chance actually, in one of those free online trainings and summits that are all over internet now. His message is always clear and on point and also relevant for all of our businesses and lives at this point. Here's a summary of his suggestion with 5 tips to help you move on.
Tony Robbins, one of worlds most recognizable and most inspirational speakers, was taught by one of the legends, Jim Rohn. Rohn was the first I heard speaking about The Seasons of life - the most beautiful allegory to help us understand all the ups and downs in our lives. In short: Spring is a time of planting the seeds and time when everything blossoms. In summer we reap the crops and protect the seeds, it's time to rest. Autumn is the time when nature changes, colors change and we have to learn lessons from previous season. We also have to prepare for winter. Because after that winter comes. It always comes. Time, when the nature sleeps. It's all a cycle. The same happens in our lives and businesses.
»I was actually expecting a winter to come now,« says Tony. »I wasn't expecting it to come in a form of a lock-down of course,« he laughs, since this winter came really strong and fast. »It's a little stronger winter, but I was expecting this period to come after a time of prosperity we had till now.«
Which means business-wise it's a normal period and we shouldn't be too surprised or terrified by it. Even though it came in an unusual form, it would have come anyway. If it wasn't a lock-down, it would be a normal recession per example. As always though, this is also a time that can make or break us.
»Crisis always either destroys you or recreates you,« says Robbins.
So what is the difference between those that come out of war as winners and those that come out as losers?
Tony Robbins says it's FOCUS.
It's what we focus on!
Tell me, are you focusing on what you HAVE or what you are MISSING?
Are you focusing on what you CAN control or what you CAN'T control?
We have to train ourselves to focus on the first. The only thing we can control is present. Past we can't control, future, we can create. After we decide what we focus on, we have to decide what that means.
»Don't be a positive thinker though,« says Tony Robbins, »See things as they are.«
And here are his 5 tips on how to move on from here:
1. Feed & strengthen your mind
Read 30 minutes a day, not what pops up in social media, read books. Leaders are readers!
2. Feed & strengthen your body
You can't separate body & mind. With stronger body, comes stronger mind. Choose an activity that fits you, it can be a long walk, a run, or you can lift weights. Whatever works for you.
3. Get role models
Model people in areas you want to model them. Don't forget we are all just humans, we are not gods. If someone is good in one area of life, he can be terrible in another. So model only the areas you want to model. And consequently, get more role models. Different for different areas of life.
4. Action
Role models may give you more certainty. So with that help, decide what you want to do and do it. What if it's not gonna work. You'll change direction. Don't search for excuses, action is a really important step. Remember you don't have to be great to start, but you need to start to become great.
5. Find somebody doing worse than you and help him
Whatever you think your biggest problem in life is, you will always find somebody who has it worse. So go and find that person, help him and you'll see you actually don't have a problem. And you'll quickly find a solution.
So, there you go. A little wisdom from Tony Robbins, always an inspiration to listen to with his relevant, practical and effective advises.
